When she completes her counting, she pulls the knob on the side of the box and the pegs come tumbling down. This is going to delight her and reward her. When she is rewarded in this manner, she will repeat the activity with a number repeatedly. Eventually, with practice, she realizes the concrete quantity associated with the numerical symbol. In time, she will count from one to ten.
